Tutoring & Mentoring
for Screen & Theatre Practitioners:
In 1989, I graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, and sustained a successful career in theatre & screen under my stage and screen name, Victoria Scarborough. During the late '90s, whilst living in London, I stumbled across the Brazilian martial art Capoeira and, within a short time, became immersed in it, travelling to Rio and learning Portuguese. Alongside my acting career, encouraged by my Mestre, I eventually began to teach the art form. When I moved to Brighton with my husband, Tim Pope, in the early 2000s, I put my acting career on hold after welcoming my second child.
In my 40s, I returned to university amidst the delightful chaos of parenting, earning a First-Class Honours degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. While pursuing my degree, in 2013, I began teaching at Chichester University, eventually becoming programme coordinator and senior lecturer for screen acting and film production students. Passionate about creative processes, I have remained dedicated to mentoring and teaching undergraduate and MA film students ever since, while nurturing my love for writing, & directing, and sometimes, acting! Currently, I love my work with MetFilm School for MA & UG students, working with a wide range of UK and international students. It was while teaching at MetFilm that I was inspired to use my creative practice to support second-language English speakers, and this has led me to acquire a new qualification with the accredited TEFL Academy. With a love of travel, I intend to begin teaching English to foreign speakers in this country and abroad.
Since relocating from London in 2007, Brighton has been my home. I hold a deep affection for this vibrant, multicultural city rich in culture and history, and it is genuinely fulfilling to be part of such a diverse and extensive community.
